These mines are planted by Indian security agencies to prevent infiltration and terrorism on the Indian side of the Line of Control; Sometimes they slip from their original location due to rain etc., causing such accidents
Jammu, 14 January
Six soldiers were injured in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday, officials said. The blast took place in Rajouri’s Nowshera sector.
An official said, “The incident took place at around 10.45 am when an army soldier on patrol in the Nowshera sector of the Line of Control accidentally stepped on a landmine, injuring six soldiers. . All the injured army personnel have been sent to hospital, where doctors have declared their condition stable.”
It is to be noted that the areas near the LoC on the Indian side have been secured by laying landmines to prevent infiltration and terrorist activities on the Indian side of the Line of Control.
A senior army officer said, “Some of the landmines planted near the Line of Control on our side are moved from their original location where they are shown on the patrol map due to rain etc. Today’s tragedies happen only because of these landmines, which are called drift mines (drift mines that have moved from their original location).” – IANS
