Elections will be held on December 21 for five Municipal Corporations, 44 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Phagwara. Voting will be held from 7 am to 4 pm. The results of the elections are also expected to come on the same day.
The spokesman of the Punjab State Election Commission said that according to the rules, there will be a special holiday for these corporation elections for government employees and other workers to vote.
Similarly, there will be a holiday tomorrow in all those schools whose buildings will be used for election purposes. In view of tomorrow’s elections, December 21 has been declared a ‘dry day’.
The interpreter said that all annual and semester examinations of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Punjabi University Patiala and Punjab University Chandigarh on December 21 have been postponed. Meanwhile, the election staff has left for the respective polling stations today with EVMs and other equipment. Adequate security arrangements have been made for the corporation elections.
