New Delhi, 20 December
The Supreme Court today said that the petition seeking formulation of a policy for the verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will now be heard by a bench headed by Justice Dipankar Dutta in January next year. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar said that during the week starting January 20, the bench of Justice Dutta on the petition filed by former Haryana Minister and five-time MLA Karan Singh Dalal and Lakhan Kumar Singla. A hearing will be held. It is significant that the bench of Justice Khanna and Justice Dutta had dismissed the petition demanding to re-conduct the elections with ballot papers in the judgment delivered in April this year. Earlier, on December 13, a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice PB Warale had refused to hear the petition saying that the matter should be heard by the bench which had previously heard similar petitions. Now the matter was listed before a bench headed by CJI. -News-Patiala
