A 16-year-old girl was crushed to death by an express train in Maharashtra’s Palghar district when she was crossing a railway line with earphones in her ears, officials said on Friday. The incident took place between Saphale and Kelve Road railway stations on Thursday afternoon at 1.10 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi Rawal, who was a resident of village Makne in this district. When she was crossing the train tracks with earphones on, she was hit by the Kochuveli-Amritsar Superfast Express train. A Government Railway Police (GRP) official said that the girl could not hear the sound of the train because she was wearing earphones.

He said that the girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where she was declared brought dead. The official said that his body has been sent to the government hospital for post-mortem and a case of accidental death has been registered. He said that the investigation of the matter is ongoing.
