District and Sessions Judge Rupinderjit Chahal visited the Central Jail, New District Jail, Nabha, and Open Air Jail, Nabha, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Manni Arora.
She inspected the jails, interacted with the inmates, and listened to their grievances. She instructed the jail superintendent, other officers, and staff to ensure timely redressal of the problems of jail inmates.
Chahal inaugurated a skill development room at New District Jail, Nabha. She said that professional courses, including those for beauticians, computer courses, phulkari, and stitching, have been started on the jail premises. She added that meditation camps and medical camps for jail inmates are also organized at the jails in the district. She distributed certificates to jail inmates who have completed the course of beautician at the Central Jail.
Officials concerned conducted a legal awareness program with the jail inmates of Central Jail, where they were sensitized about the bad effects of drug addiction.
This is a positive development. It is important to provide jail inmates with opportunities to learn new skills and improve themselves. This will help them to reintegrate into society after they are released from prison. It is also important to educate jail inmates about the dangers of drug addiction and how to avoid it. I hope that this legal awareness program will be helpful to the jail inmates and that they will be able to stay away from drugs in the future.
