After the Supreme Court’s decision to make Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory, teachers in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, were facing uncertainty for a long time. Meanwhile, the central government seeking reports from the states about the teachers appointed in grades 1 to 8 before 2011 has raised new hopes among about 1.86 lakh teachers in Uttar Pradesh. It is believed that with this step these teachers can get relief from the requirement of TET.

For the last four months, these teachers have been continuously agitating to secure their future. He has raised his voice from Lucknow to Delhi, sometimes meeting MLAs and MPs, sometimes reaching the Education Minister and the Chief Minister. Citing aging and unemployment crisis, teachers have demanded service security from the government.

According to leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Primary Teachers Association, the decision has reduced frustration among teachers and raised hopes that their struggle will bear fruit. Meanwhile, the All India Teachers’ Struggle Front believes that if the relief is granted, around 1.8 million teachers in Uttar Pradesh and across the country could benefit.
