In the final matches of the men’s and women’s teams of the first Kho Kho World Cup held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here, the men’s and women’s teams of India created history by defeating both the teams of Nepal to win the title. The Indian men’s team, playing in blue, defeated the Nepal team by 54-36 thanks to the good performance of captain Prateek Waikar and Ramji Kashyap. Earlier, the Indian women’s team clinched the title with a resounding 78-40 win over Nepal. The Indian players maintained their dominance from the beginning to the end of the match, presenting an excellent example of speed, strategy and skill.
The Indian women’s team, after registering a resounding victory over South Korea, Iran and Malaysia in the group stage, defeated Bangladesh in the quarter-finals and South Africa in the semi-finals in a one-sided manner. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the Indian teams on winning the first Kho Kho World Cup, saying that this victory has brought one of India’s oldest traditional sports into more limelight. -News-Patiala
