In the opening matches, the Indian team fielded Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan as the opening pair. After the crushing loss to South Africa in the Super 8, Sanju Samson was given the responsibility along with Abhishek. Ishan Kishan was sent in to bat at number three. Sanju Samson scored 321 runs in just five World Cup matches. He also created history by scoring three consecutive fifties against West Indies, England and New Zealand. For this outstanding performance, he was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
Sanju Samson returned as an opener with 24 runs against Zimbabwe, then followed that up with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a do-or-die contest to lead the team to victory. After this, he scored 89 runs in the semi-final against England and also scored 89 in the final against New Zealand.
In the ICC T20 World Cup, a player is awarded a prize money of US$ 25,000, approximately 21 lakh Indian rupees, for being declared the player of the tournament. There, 10,000 dollars is given for becoming the player of the match. According to India, around 8.4 lakh rupees are made. In the ICC T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy, the prize money for each team is fixed in advance. ICC does not award cash prizes to players for individual awards such as Player of the Match and Player of the Series awarded during matches and tournaments as per the rules. Awards are given to the players in the form of trophies and medals.
