The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said it is closely monitoring cases of respiratory problems and seasonal colds in the country and is in contact with international agencies regarding recent reports of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) outbreaks in China. . This claim has been made by official sources. “We are closely monitoring the situation and the information is being verified accordingly,” said a senior official.

Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Atul Goyal said that Human Metapneumovirus is like any other respiratory virus, which causes cold and flu-like symptoms in the youth and most of the elderly. He said, “There are reports that Human Metapneumovirus has spread in China. However, we have reviewed the data on respiratory diseases in India and there was no significant increase in the data in December 2024, nor a large number of cases reported from any of our institutions. There is no need to panic about the current situation. Goyal said, “Cases of respiratory infections increase in winter, but our hospitals have sufficient supplies and beds to deal with it.” Take appropriate precautions to avoid contact.
