Cultural events in view of daughters’ Lohri

Dedicated to the festival of Lohri, Sunakhi Punjaban and Omex Chowk jointly organized a function related to ‘Dhiyan di Lohri’. The aim of the event was to celebrate the achievements of the girls and recognize their contribution to society. This special event held at Omax Chowk, Gandhi Maidan Parking Chandni Chowk, Delhi also served to connect the joy of traditional Lohri with the message of women empowerment and gender equality. On this occasion, the performance of traditional Punjabi folk dance Gidhe and Bhangra enthralled the audience. During the interactive session where women’s empowerment, education and girl’s rights were discussed, plays, poetry readings and folk songs were also performed artistically. The special attraction of the program was the demonstration of their art and tradition by four generations of women, including an 82-year-old senior artist. Eco-friendly iron was used in the program keeping air pollution in mind. Founder of Sunakhi Punjaban Dr. Avneet Kaur Bhatia said on this occasion that there is also a festival of Lohri daughters. The aim of this festival is to appreciate the contribution of girls in the society and ensure equal opportunities for them. Sesame seeds, jaggery, peanuts, gajak and rice were also distributed at the end of the program.
