The base camp of Vaishno Devi temple in Katra was closed today in protest against the proposed Rs 250 crore ropeway project connecting the Tarakot Marg with a common roof. This road leads to the cave temple located in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ‘Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Committee’, which claims to represent shopkeepers, pony drivers and palanquin owners, has led a protest march in the city demanding that the ropeway disrupt the livelihood of local traders, demanding that the project be scrapped. be rejected.

Last month, the Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had decided to set up a ropeway to facilitate access to the temple for senior citizens, children and others who find it difficult to climb the 13-km-long path to the cave temple. In opposition to the ropeway project, the committee organized a large rally from Shalimar Park with the support of various organizations.
