Voting was held today amid violent incidents during the elections of five Municipal Corporations and 44 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats in Punjab. Allegations of disturbances and bullying have been made by the candidates during the voting. During these elections, a total of 65.85 percent polling has taken place across Punjab.
According to preliminary information, the ruling party Aam Aadmi Party was dominant in Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala out of 5 Municipal Corporations of Punjab, while Congress was ahead in Amritsar and Phagwara. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP Punjab President Aman Arora’s district Sangrur Municipal Council could not get a majority. According to the information received by the Punjab State Election Commission, voting has been held today in 45 wards of Patiala, in which AAP has won in 35 wards. Apart from this, BJP and Congress have won 4-4 and Shiromani Akali Dal candidates have won in 2 wards. Before this, AAP has won unopposed in 8 wards, while the court has stayed on 7 wards.
