Out of the canceled elections of 20 panchayats of Vidhan Sabha constituency Giddarbaha, voting was held in 14 villages today, while voting for panchayats of six villages was not held today.
Votes were held for Sarpanch in one village and Panch in others. It is to be mentioned that the panchayat elections were held on October 15, but due to the allegations of fake signatures on the papers withdrawing the nominations of candidates of 20 villages of Giddarbaha constituency, the elections of these villages were canceled by the Election Commission on September 11. Due to this, Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Waring and former Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal staged dharnas and complained to the Election Commission. Later, on the basis of the orders issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 13, the polls were held again for the panchayat elections today.
SDM Giddarbaha Jaspal Singh Brar said that according to the notification issued by the Election Commission, the votes were held today. Adequate arrangements were made for this and 26 booths were constructed. The SDM said that although the Election Commission had released a list of 20 villages, Luhara, Kothe Hazure Wale, Kothe Dhab Wale, Kothe Kesar Singh Wale, Samagh and Madhir were still excluded from the list. DSP Avtar Singh said that the votes were cast in a peaceful manner.
100 year old Nand Singh also voted
Giddarbaha (Davinder Mohan Bedi): Votes for panchayat members were held today in many villages of Giddarbaha constituency. Voted for Sarpanchi in village Daula. Enthusiasm was seen among the people, especially the youth as well as the elders for these votes. 100-year-old Nand Singh, who came to cast his vote in Daula village, said, “We have found independence very difficult and for this we have had to make many sacrifices, in which the Punjabis have made a major contribution.” He said, “We You must use your vote. With this we can make our representative by choosing our favorite candidate.” On this occasion, DSP Giddarbaha Avtar Singh Rajpal honored elder Nand Singh. On this occasion, Elder Nand Singh also shared his memories of the independence period.
