After the withdrawal of nomination papers for 11 wards of Bariwala Nagar Panchayat, 38 candidates are left in the fray. Aam Aadmi Party has fielded its candidates in all 11 wards and AAP MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar has claimed that all their candidates will win. Along with this, Congress has fielded 8 candidates while BJP has decided to contest in 6 wards. Similarly, Akali Dal has fielded its candidates in 6 wards while independent candidates are in the fray in 7 wards. The victory or defeat of these candidates will be decided on December 21 after voting. There is a very tough competition in many wards.
In ward number 9, Aam Aadmi Party’s Pooja and independent candidate Vanita Rani are in direct competition, while in ward number 1, AAP’s Sukhdeep Kaur, Azad Hardeep Kaur and BJP’s Harbans are in direct competition. Similarly, in ward number 3, Azad Angrez Kaur, AAP’s Dijit Kaur and BJP’s Rani Devi are contesting.
Rajbalwinder Maradh nominated six candidates
The Maragh family has a significant political influence in Mandi Bariwala, which is adjacent to the village of Maragh, former MLA Sarvagi Sukhdarshan Singh Maragh. In order to maintain this political existence, Rajbalwinder Singh Marah, the police officer’s son of Mr. Marah, has nominated his candidates from 6 wards in the Nagar Panchayat elections, after first standing his group in the panchayat elections. He said that all these are independent candidates and their election symbols are buckets. Among them are Hardeep Kaur from Ward No. 1, Tehil Singh from Ward No. 2, Angrez Kaur from 3, Baljit Kaur from 4, Vanita Rani from Ward No. 9 and Kashish Bansal from Ward No. 10.
