New Delhi, 21 December
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has given permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. The Lt. Governor has taken this decision ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, which may lead to political and legal disputes. After a months-long investigation into the Delhi government’s controversial excise policy, the ED had on December 5 sought permission to prosecute Kejriwal. Kejriwal is accused of having prepared this scheme with the intention of benefiting the liquor businessmen and encouraging corruption. According to the ED, loopholes were deliberately left in the excise policy, through which bribes were taken from liquor traders to benefit the ‘Aap’ leaders.
