New Delhi, December 17
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a verbal attack on the Congress in the Rajya Sabha today, saying that the country’s main opposition party has treated the Constitution as a ‘personal property’ of a family and has ‘cheated’ the Parliament. Union Home Minister Shah responded to the two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the topic of ’75 years of glorious journey of the Constitution of India’. Meanwhile, Shah accused the Congress of doing politics of appeasement and claimed that the Congress wants to break the limit of 50 percent reservation to give reservation to Muslims.
He asked the Congress whether it supports the Muslim Personal Law. He also alleged that the Congress never worked for the welfare of the backward classes.
The Union Home Minister also targeted the Congress for raising doubts about the EVMs in the elections. He mentioned the defeat of the Congress in the Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections and said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been held responsible for this. Amit Shah said that when the results of the assembly elections of two states came on the same day and a party was wiped out in one and it won in the other, then those who questioned the EVM should be ashamed because The public is watching.
Without naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah said, “Few politicians have come. At the age of 54, they call themselves young. They go around and say that (the ruling party) will change the constitution. I want to tell them that the content of changing the constitution is only in Article 368 of the constitution. He said that the BJP ruled for 16 years, during which the constitution was amended 22 times, while the Congress ruled for 55 years, during which it amended the constitution 77 times. -News-Patiala

Surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Rajya Sabha on the issue of Manipur, Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) said that it is not right not to talk about Manipur during the discussion on the glorious journey of 75 years of the Constitution. TMC leader Sushmita Dev said that the ruling party of the North-Eastern region should resign as all the rights given to the people under the constitution have been curtailed in Manipur. CPI(M)’s John Brits said, ‘The Prime Minister should be allowed to go to Manipur. Let him fulfill his responsibility as the Prime Minister of this country.’
