Patiala, October 9: Amarjit Singh, a farmer of Punia Khana village in Patiala district, has become an example for other farmers by disposing of stubble without setting fire. Singh has been farming for four years without setting fire to the stubble in his 80-acre land. He makes bales of the stubble with a baler, which leaves the fields empty immediately after harvesting the paddy.
Singh said that he planted PR 126 varieties of paddy, which yielded 7 quintals per acre. He said that he along with his two sons Satwant Singh and Dhanwant Singh have been farming without setting fire to the stubble for the last four years.
DC Sakshi Sahni said that such farmers are a source of inspiration for other farmers and the district administration will honor them.
