There is good news for the youth who dream of getting a government job in Indian Railways and the accounts of the last few years have also come out. Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav told Parliament what is the government’s roadmap for railway recruitment and how many people have been employed in the last few years. Indian Railways has started recruitment for a total of 120,579 posts in calendar years 2024 and 2025, the Railways Minister told Parliament in a written reply on Wednesday. He also presented a comparison of the data of the last 11 years.
Citing statistics, Ashwini Vaishnav said that the speed of recruitment in railways has increased during the tenure of the Modi government. From 2014-15 to 2024-25, Railways has provided jobs to 5.08 lakh people. Whereas, from 2004-05 to 2013-14, the UPA government created only 4.11 lakh jobs. The railway minister used this comparison to show that more jobs have been created in the railways during the current government’s tenure.
The Railway Minister said that recruitment in Railways is a continuous process which depends on operational and technical requirements. He also gave details of recruitments for 2024 and 2025. The notification was issued for the recruitment of 92,116 posts from January to December 2024. These include Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), Technician, Sub-Inspector and Constable in the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Junior Engineer (JE), Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC – Graduate and Under-Graduate), Para-Medical Staff and Level-1 (Track Maintainer, Pointsman etc.). 7 notifications have been issued or are in the pipeline for the recruitment of 28,463 posts in 2025.
The Railway Minister assured Parliament of transparency in the examinations. He said that Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examinations are technically complex and require considerable resource consumption. Despite these challenges, the Railways completed the recruitment process in a transparent manner, following all the guidelines. He insisted that there were no paper leaks or other irregularities during the entire process.
The minister said that the network of Indian Railways is very vast. Regular operations, introduction of new technologies, mechanization and retirement processes require continuous manpower, which is replenished from time to time through recruitment agencies.
