Who is the real owner of the Internet? A surprising revelation happened here

Who owns Internet: Have you ever wondered who owns the Internet? A new discussion going on on Reddit has brought this question back into the spotlight. In a thread on r/IndiaTech people claimed “Google is the Internet.” Hearing this, perhaps you too stop for a moment. The discussion started when user @limsus shared a post by X (formerly Twitter) user Arin Verma that sparked a debate on the reality of the internet.

The power of Google

Arin Verma told in his post how Google has spread its roots in every direction of the Internet. He told that Google has 14% stake in Anthropic and 8% stake in SpaceX. It runs AI platforms like Gemini and powers Claude AI with its TPU chips. More than 90% of search queries occur on Google. YouTube, Android, Gmail, Chrome, Ads and Cloud services are also under Google. Even the whole world is being captured in maps through Google Maps. Verma wrote “Google is the Internet.”

Logic and satire of Reddit users

Reddit users also gave interesting feedback on this. One user jokingly wrote, “If TATA Communications shuts down its fiber optic network, Google will have to send search results by post.”

This comment was definitely funny but there was a truth hidden in it. The real Internet is not just Google or social media but is based on cables, servers and networks that are spread all over the world.

what is the reality

The discussion on Reddit slowly turned into a deep debate about “What exactly is the Internet?” Google’s reach is so widespread that most of us associate the Internet with Google. We search, watch videos, use maps, everything is in Google’s ecosystem. But the real Internet is much bigger than that, it is a huge network that runs through telecom companies, data centers and undersea cables.
