Kasganj Tricolor Yatra murder case: 28 persons sentenced to life imprisonment by NIA

A special NIA court has convicted 28 persons in the case of the shooting death of a person named Chandan Gupta in a communal clash during the Tricolor Yatra held in Kasganj in 2018. Special Judge Vivekananda Sharan Tripathi has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment with a fine of 80 thousand rupees each. The accused have been convicted on charges of murder, premeditated murder, rioting and disrespecting the national flag. After the death of Chandan Gupta, there were riots in Kasganj for three days. The National Investigation Agency has released Naseeruddin and Asim Qureshi due to lack of evidence. Kasganj Sessions Court in September 2019 indicted 23 persons, followed by seven others in November 2019. After a brief trial in Kasganj, it was transferred to the Lucknow court. After Thursday’s verdict, Chandan’s parents said they had faith in the judicial process. -News-Patiala
