The Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted a drug trafficking gang and arrested four people, including a woman, with 5 kg of heroin. DGP Gaurav Yadav said today that the arrested persons have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (19) and Baljit Kaur (32) both residents of Muthianwal village, Tarn Taran district, Maninder Singh (34) resident of Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran and Harpreet Singh (26) resident of Tarn Taran. Village Lodhi Gujran, Amritsar. The police have also seized two motorcycles with heroin from them.
The DGP said that all the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers and used to receive drug consignments from across the border. Investigation has revealed that the consignment is being forwarded using drones. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that after receiving a tip-off, the police arrested Gurpreet Singh and Baljit Kaur along with 3 kg of heroin on January 1 from Guru Ki Wadali area. During the investigation, it was found that Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Baljit Kaur are cousins. Baljit Kaur’s husband Balbir Singh was arrested under the NDPS Act by Hindumalkot police station in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan in 2022, from where 5 kg of heroin was recovered from him. He is currently lodged in Karanpur Jail in Rajasthan. A case has been registered in this regard in Cheharta police station.
Six arrested with heroin, opium and drug money
The District Rural Police of Amritsar has arrested six persons in different cases and recovered two kilos of heroin, 300 grams of opium, drugs worth four and a half lakh rupees and a car. SSP Charanjit Singh said that the arrested persons have been identified as Balbir Singh alias Beera and Ajay Verma. In the same case, Sukhdev Singh alias Sukh resident of Attari, Harman Deep Singh alias Honey and Harman Singh have been arrested. After this, Subeg Singh alias Shega Singh was also arrested in this case.
