Chandigarh/Patiala, 30 December
As the December 31 deadline given by the Supreme Court to hospitalize farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a death fast, is approaching, the Punjab government has stepped up efforts to convince Dallewal to seek medical help. The team led by former Additional DGP Jaskaran Singh has been making continuous efforts to convince Dallewal for the past several days. It is significant that the Supreme Court had recently warned the Chief Secretary and DGP of the Punjab Government to transfer Dallewal to the hospital by December 31 or else be ready for judicial execution. Jaskaran Singh met Dallewal again today at Khanuri border. Talking to reporters later, the retired police officer said that a team of doctors has taken Dallewal’s blood samples for various tests. In response to a question, Singh said that Dallewal is weak, but his condition is stable. When asked by reporters if the farmers were afraid that the police might abduct Dallewal, Singh said, “I have not seen such a situation.”
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said that the deployment of a large number of police personnel in Patiala Police Lines is a ‘matter of concern’. Bajwa, in a post on X, said, “Is all this being done to threaten or harm the peaceful protesting farmers including Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Bajwa said, “If there is any harm to the farmers, then Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will be fully responsible and it is unforgivable to ignore the demands of the farmers.” On the other hand, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that in a democratic system, farmers should be peaceful. can move with He said that the farmers’ fight is not against the Punjab or Haryana government, but their demands are related to the Centre. Pandher said, “Punjab government will have to stand with three crore Punjabis. They should not try to forcibly remove Dallewal on the Khanuri border under the pretext of the court. -News-Patiala
