Municipal Corporation and Council Elections: AAP captures Patiala

In the elections of five Municipal Corporations and 42 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat held in Punjab on Saturday, the ruling party Aam Aadmi Party has managed to get a majority only in Patiala Municipal Corporation, while the other four Municipal Corporations in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Phagwara have won. Even the political party has not got the majority but AAP has emerged as the largest party in Jalandhar and Ludhiana Municipal Corporations and Congress Party has emerged as the largest party in Amritsar and Phagwara. Similarly, out of 42 city councils and two city panchayats in Punjab, AAP has won clear majority in 29 and Congress in two.

According to the information received from the Election Commission, the results of 53 out of 60 wards of Patiala have been declared, while the election was not held in seven wards on the orders of the honorable High Court. Here AAP has won 43, Congress and BJP 4-4 and Shiromani Akali Dal has won 2 wards. Out of 85 wards in Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, AAP has won 38, Congress 25, BJP 19 and independent candidates have won three wards. Out of 95 wards in Ludhiana municipal elections, AAP has won 41, Congress 30, BJP 19, Shiromani Akali Dal 2 and independent candidates have won in three wards. Similarly, out of 85 wards, Congress has won 40, AAP 24, BJP 9, Shiromani Akali Dal 4 and independent candidates have won 8 wards. Out of 50 wards, Congress has won 22, AAP 12, BJP 4, Shiromani Akali Dal and Bahujan Samaj Party 3 each and independent candidates have won in 6 wards.
