Three people, including two women, were killed and six others injured in a major accident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai on Thursday night.
According to the police, a speeding Toyota Innova hit multiple vehicles near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link toll plaza around 10.45pm. The Innova first hit a Mercedes Benz car about 100 metres before the toll booth, and then rammed into many more cars at the toll booth itself, leaving nine people injured. Three of the injured were later declared dead.
Six of the injured persons, including the driver of the Innova, are being treated. Two of them are in serious condition. Barring the Innova, five more vehicles were involved in the accident.
Seven people, including the driver, were travelling on the Innova at the time of the accident.
A case is being registered against the driver of the Innova car on the basis of preliminary information and further investigations are underway.
Police Appeal to Motorists to Drive Safely
The police have appealed to motorists to drive safely and follow traffic rules, especially on busy roads like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
“We urge motorists to drive within the speed limit and avoid rash and negligent driving. Please be extra careful while driving at night and in low-visibility conditions,” said a police spokesperson.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is one of the busiest roads in Mumbai, and road accidents are not uncommon on this stretch. However, such a major accident with multiple fatalities is rare.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the importance of road safety. Motorists are urged to be extra careful and responsible while driving, especially on busy roads like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
