The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the proposal of setting up 1786 polling stations in Patiala district for the next election. This is an increase of 6 polling stations from the previous election.
The District Election Officer (DEO) of Patiala, Sakshi Sahni, said that the proposal was sent to the ECI after rationalizing the location of polling stations based on population. The ECI has approved the proposal to set up the same 1786 polling stations that were established in the previous election.
The DEO said that the rationalization of polling stations has been done in accordance with the following criteria:
- The polling station should be located in a central place in the village/ward.
- The polling station should be accessible to all voters, including those with disabilities.
- The polling station should be adequate in size to accommodate the expected number of voters.
- The polling station should be secure and free from any kind of interference.
The DEO also said that the special revision of photo electoral rolls in the district will begin on October 27, 2023. Claims and objections will be accepted until December 9, 2023. The claims and objections will be disposed of by December 26, 2023, and the final publication of voter lists will be done on January 5, 2024.
In addition, as per the instructions of the Chief Election Officer, Punjab, special camps will be organized at all polling booths on November 4, 2023 (Saturday), November 5, 2023 (Sunday), December 2, 2023 (Saturday), and December 3, 2023 (Sunday). BLOs will sit at their polling booths from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to receive Form 6, 6B, 7, and 8 from the general public and applicants.
