Former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni Arrested for Spending More than Income

News Patiala: The Vigilance Bureau of Punjab has arrested former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni for spending more than his income. The Bureau had been investigating Soni’s assets and investments since 2022, and found that he had spent Rs. 7.96 crore more than his sources of income.

The investigation found that Soni’s income during the check period of April 1, 2002 to March 31, 2016 was Rs. 4.52 crore. However, his expenses during the same period were Rs. 12.48 crore, which is more than 176% of his income.

The Bureau filed an FIR against Soni on July 9, 2023, under sections 13(1)(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Sony was arrested on the same day and is currently in police custody.

This is a major development in the case, and it will be interesting to see how the courts proceed. Soni is a powerful politician, and it will be a test of the strength of the Indian legal system to see if he is held accountable for his actions.
