Police, hospital tried to erase evidence: RG Kar victim’s parents

Kolkata, 25 January

The parents of the RG Kar Hospital victim have said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cannot deny responsibility for the alleged attempt by police and hospital officials to destroy evidence of their daughter’s rape and murder. The parents claimed that they tried to protect the main conspirators behind the crime, while the CBI failed to bring all the accused to trial and ignored the larger conspiracy aspect.

The ruling Trinamool Congress has termed these allegations as unfortunate. The deceased doctor’s mother told a Bengali TV channel on Friday, “Kolkata police, hospital administration and public representatives of TMC played an active role in suppressing this horrific incident so that the truth does not come out.” The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee was found semi-naked in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 last year. In this regard, on January 20, Sanjay Roy, the sole accused in the rape-murder case, was sentenced to life imprisonment till death.

The victim’s father said, “Despite our testimony to the agency, the CBI did not solve these cases properly.” He accused both the CBI and the Kolkata Police of lax investigation to save some people. News-Patiala
