Washington, January 25
The US Supreme Court has approved the extradition of Mumbai attack accused Tahavur Rana to India as it dismissed a review petition filed against his conviction. India was seeking the extradition of Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, as he was wanted in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case.
This was Rana’s last legal chance not to be extradited to India. He previously lost legal battles in several federal courts, including the US Court of Appeals for the Northern Circuit in San Francisco. Rana filed a “Petition for Writ of Certiorari” in the US Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court refused it on January 21, a day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the US President. The Supreme Court said that the petition has been rejected. Rana is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. News-Patiala
