Seven dead, many injured in Jallikattu, Manjuvirattu incidents in Tamil Nadu

At least seven people died during Jallikattu and Manjuvirattu events on Kanum Pongal in Tamil Nadu. The police while giving this information said that most of the spectators and an owner of the bull were included in the dead.

Police said that two bulls also died in different incidents. A bull died during the program in Pudukottai, while a bull and its owner died in Siraviyal Manjuvirattu in Sivaganga, police said. Thanish Raja of Naduvikottai Fort Awandhipatti village in Manjuvirattu in Siraviyal of Sivaganga district brought his bull to participate in the event. They said that Raja died along with the bull when the bull fell into a field well in Kambanur while running away from the field. The king jumped into the well to catch the animal. Both died due to drowning. He said that around 130 people were injured in Manjuvirattu.

Similarly, 55-year-old spectator P Pariyasamy of Mattupatti village near Vadipatti in Madurai’s Alanganallur was gored by a raging bull on his neck. At least 70 people were injured in this village.

Similarly, in four different jallikattu programs in Tiruchirappalli, Karur and Pudukottai districts, two spectators died and 148 people were injured, including bull owners and bull trainers. Police said that a 30-year-old man was killed in a bull run in Basthalapally in Krishnagiri district, while a 45-year-old man was killed in a bull attack in Santhrapatti in Sale district. -News-Patiala
