The Punjab and Haryana High Court has lifted the stay imposed on the election of eight wards of the Municipal Council here. Late in the evening, the double bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has pronounced this decision.
Earlier, by filing a writ petition on December 19, the single judge of the High Court postponed the election process of eight wards of Dharamkot and stopped it. Constituency MLA Davinderjit Singh Ladi Dhos, in a hastily called press conference in the evening, while sharing the new decision of the High Court with the journalists, said that the election process of Dharamkot Municipal Council started on December 14. 36 candidates filed their nominations in this election process. After returning the names, 13 candidates were unanimously selected and certificates were also issued to the winning candidates. He said that an opposition candidate could not bear his defeat and filed a writ petition in the Hon’ble High Court.
The MLA said that late in the evening, honorable judges Justice Suresh Thakur and Justice Vikas Suri, who are leading the double bench of the High Court, have declared the entire election process valid by removing the stay on the election process. He said that the High Court has issued instructions to the government to form the Dharamkot Municipal Council. He said that within a week, the other office bearers including the president will be selected. On this occasion, Gurmeet Singh, Harpreet Singh Rikki, Dr. Gurmeet Singh Gill, Raja Batra, Dr. Leaders like Amritpal Singh Bittu, Chamkaur Singh, Gurmail Singh Bhola and Manga Minister were also present.
