Dr. D. P. Singh
A small village called Sansarpur was nestled in the lap of the Shivalik Hills. The sky had been covered with gray clouds for the past few days, but after the rain this morning, the light of the mid-sky sun was trying to break through the clouds and touch the earth. Preeti is a bright eight-year-old girl who is always curious to know the mysteries of nature. Today she was playing with her dog Moti on the banks of the river, passing by the village and playing with sticks. Suddenly, Preeti saw a beautiful rainbow spread across the sky, its colors full of magical brilliance.
“Wow, Pearl! Look at this!” Preeti said, pointing her hand to shield her eyes from the harsh sunlight. Only then she took a deep breath and said, “I wish! How do I know how a rainbow is made?”
A faint voice was heard. “Perhaps I can help,” were the words of a brightly colored butterfly flying towards Preeti. Preeti was shocked to hear the words of this beautiful butterfly.
“My name is Chitakbari,” said the butterfly, fluttering its wings lightly.
“Rainbows are one of nature’s most beautiful mysteries. Come with me, I’ll take you to the rainbow, where you’ll learn all about it!” Preeti’s eyes lit up with happiness.
“Can Moti and I really go there?” Preeti asked him.
Chitakbari nodded. “Follow me. It will take determination as the journey is a bit tough.”
Preeti and Moti followed behind Khushi Khushi Chitakbari. Chitakbari was flying along the river. Soon, the sky was covered with thick black clouds. Preeti saw, the brightness of the colors visible in front was decreasing.
“How much longer will it take?” asked Preeti.
Chitkabri stopped. “Almost there, but be careful, the giant named Black Cloud is the enemy of the rainbow and is always trying to steal it.” He does not like her beauty and happy-go-lucky nature.”
Following Chitakbari, Preeti and Moti reached a bright portal where many colors were mingling. As they entered this portal, they came very close to the rainbow. A river of colored lights was flowing here. Decorated with brightly colored flowers and a rainbow ribbon shaped like a bow, it was a magnificent place.
“Welcome!” chirped Chitkabri. “Let’s learn the secret of the rainbow.”
As soon as Chitakbari started speaking, Preeti’s attention was on him.
“Rainbows are formed when sunlight passes through droplets suspended in the air, after rain. Each droplet acts like a tiny prism, splitting light into seven colors. These colors are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, dark blue and purple. It’s a natural charisma!”
“This is really amazing!” Preeti was clapping her hands happily.
Suddenly, the sky darkened and the colors began to fade. A heavy and rumbling sound was heard. “The rainbow is here, but it shouldn’t be anywhere else.”
It was the voice of a black giant i.e. a huge black cloud with angry red eyes. The black giant waved his black rune-like hand and the colors of the rainbow stripe began to sink into the rapidly swirling black vortex.
Saying “Stop!”, Preeti started to cry.
Preeti said, “Rainbow is a source of happiness for all of us!”
“Happiness is perishable, but darkness is permanent,” the black giant sneered.
Preeti went forward with full courage. “If there is no rainbow, how can people hope for better conditions after heavy rain?”
The black giant stopped. His black shadow trembled as if in a dilemma, but the swirling black vortex intensified. The river of colored lights was drying up and Chitakbari was now flapping her wings very slowly as if she had become very weak.
“You can’t fight him alone!” said Chitakbari. “You need to throw light on it to dispel its blackness, just as raindrops reflect rays of light.”
Preeti thought quickly. He picked up a smooth, shiny crystal lying nearby and turned its flat side toward the black giant. The crystal caught a faint ray of rainbow light, turning it into a brilliant shower of colors.
“Ah!” the black giant screamed and ran away from the light.
The position of the love crystal kept changing so that the bright shower of colors was focused on the black giant. As the black giant weakened, the rapidly spinning black vortex disappeared and the seven-colored realm flashed again.
The black giant faded into a puff of smoke and disappeared. As soon as the giant disappeared, Chitakbari became as agile as before and flew and landed on Preeti’s shoulder.
“Pretty! You have done an amazing feat,” he said.
Preeti looked at Chitakbari and asked, “Why does this black giant hate the rainbow so much?”
Chitakbari took a deep breath. “The black giant was a cloud that had accidentally lost its joyful hearty light. Sometimes, when people forget about happiness, they get caught up in sadness. Happiness doesn’t look good to him, but you reminded him of the beautiful colors of happiness sleeping inside him.
Preeti and Moti, carrying the glittering crystal as a memento, return to the arena through the portal. The rainbow in the sky looked brighter and more beautiful than before.
“Thank you, Chitakbari.” Preeti said goodbye to return home.
“Pretty! Remembering that rainbows show us that beauty exists even after dark storms. It is very important to tell this secret to everyone.” Chitakbari’s words were.
As Preeti walked home with the pearl, she was very happy because she had learned the wonderful secret of the rainbow and she was eager to share this secret with her friends.
That evening, Preeti placed the crystal by the window of her room in the light of the setting sun. Just then a beautiful rainbow appeared on the wall of his room as if telling him of the existence of more adventures in the future.
