Due to the fact that 15 AAP candidates were elected unopposed for the 60-wards municipal corporation Patiala, the election is now being held in only 45 wards. Meanwhile, although AAP has 45 candidates in all these wards, but among the rest, 44 from Congress, 42 from Akali Dal, 39 from BJP and 44 candidates from Congress and independents are also in the fray. Although each candidate has his own personality, but still some of the prominent leaders are trying their luck. Among them, AAP’s Harpal Juneja from ward number 38 is the only candidate of this city, who has also contested the assembly election from Patiala constituency on the ticket of Akali Dal during the last assembly elections. Before this, his father Bhagwan Das Juneja had also contested the by-election of the Vidhan Sabha from here, but Juneja had joined AAP some time ago. In case of victory, his name is also among those joining the race for the post of mayor. Juneja has direct competition with Pardeep Singh of Congress in this ward. AAP’s urban president Tejinder Mehta is also prominent among 34, compared to whom BJP’s Sushil Nair and Akali Dal’s Shahjahan Ali Qureshi are also prominent. Apart from this, other prominent candidates of AAP include Gurjit Sahni from number 58, Kundan Gogia from number 30 and Jarnail Singh Manu from number 40, Sarpanch Gurkirpal Singh Kasiana from number 14 and Shivraj Virak from number 10. are included in
Apart from this, Akali Dal’s district city president Amit Rathi and Akali leader Sukhwinderpal Minta’s wife, along with Youth Congress constituency president Sanjeev Kalu, wives of Sevak Jhil, and some other prominent Congressmen are also in the fray. The names of some others including BJP’s KK Malhotra are also prominent. Apart from this, some other prominent candidates are also trying their luck.

Adequate arrangements for elections in Nagar Panchayat Ghagga
Ghagga (Ravel Singh Bhinder): All preparations and election arrangements for Nagar Panchayat Ghagga elections are complete and voting will be held tomorrow from 7 am to 4 pm. Election Returning Officer cum SDM Samana Tarsem Chand said during the press conference that the counting will be done at the polling station itself after voting. Arrangements will also be made for videography during the election process. It is to be noted that the election of 12 wards out of 13 wards of this Nagar Panchayat is being held tomorrow, while the first election on ward number 2 has gone ahead without any contest. The returning officer said that there are 8359 total voters in this election, out of which 4067 female voters and 4292 male voters will use their vote. He said that 8 polling stations are in ultra sensitive and 4 in sensitive category. The returning officer said that the DSP Patdars are taking responsibility for adequate security arrangements. Baljinder Kaur, EO of Ghagga Committee was also present on this occasion. It is to be noted that for Ghagga Nagar Panchayat today, the candidates made contact with the voters by going door to door. If we look at this election from the political point of view, there is a competition between the ruling party AAP, Congress and BJP. Independent candidates are also having a lot of influence in many wards. Former president of Nagar Panchayat Ghagga and social worker Major Singh Sekhon said that there is a lot of enthusiasm among the voters and the contests are also interesting.
