Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the foreign ministers of Arab countries and the secretary general of the Arab League in Delhi. The meeting signaled the strengthening of ties between India and the Arab world. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for the Palestinian people and welcomed the Gaza peace efforts. They also outlined a new vision for cooperation in trade, investment, energy and technology. However, this warm meeting in Delhi has taken Pakistan by surprise. Let us understand why this friendship between India and Arab countries is a major diplomatic setback for Pakistan.

Pakistan has always considered itself the self-proclaimed leader of the Muslim world. It expected help and support from Arab countries in the name of religion (Islamic community). But Prime Minister Modi’s diplomacy has shattered this illusion. Arab countries now prioritize economic interests and strategic partnerships over religious sentiments. India is a major economy, while Pakistan has become a mere borrower.

Ignored Pakistan on the Kashmir issue

Pakistan raises the issue of Kashmir on every international platform. He hoped that the Arab League and Muslim countries would speak out against India. But the strengthening of Indo-Arab relations has isolated Pakistan. Powerful countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE have considered Kashmir as an internal matter of India. Now, Arab countries are talking about “zero tolerance” on terrorism with India, a direct reference to Pakistan.

Investment and Technology: India became the first choice

Arab countries are now diversifying their economies by reducing their oil dependence. So, they need technology, startups and a large market, which India offers. Pakistan has nothing but instability and terrorism. The roadmap that Prime Minister Modi presented to Arab leaders for trade and investment is far beyond Pakistan’s imagination. This is the reason why Arab friends who are supposed to be “our own” are now standing with India except Pakistan.

India’s balanced stance on Gaza and Palestine

By supporting Palestine, PM Modi has also made it clear that India has not forgotten its old friends. It has also thwarted Pakistan’s propaganda, which sought to portray India as anti-Muslim. India has struck a balance and won the trust of the Arab world. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also said, “The Prime Minister reiterated India’s continued support for the Palestinian people and welcomed various peace efforts, including the Gaza Peace Plan.”
