How to Check AQI: As pollution levels continue to rise in many Indian cities including Delhi, Google Maps has released a new real-time AQI tracker for users. With the help of this feature, people will now be able to immediately know the quality of the air around them and will be able to decide their daily routine accordingly. The new update updates the pollution data of more than 40 countries of the world every hour, which also includes India.
Earlier AQI data was visible on Google Maps with a slight delay but now live readings will be available. With this, users will be able to understand the air condition before going out, traveling or planning a workout. This feature will prove to be very useful especially in those cities where pollution increases or decreases rapidly.
Color-coded AQI scale
To easily understand air quality, Google Maps has included a colored AQI scale. These figures, which are updated every hour, are visible on both the app and desktop. The AQI scale runs from 0 to 500 where lower numbers mean cleaner air.
0–50: good air (green)
51–100: satisfactory (yellow)
101–200: worse than normal (orange)
201–300: bad (red)
301–400: very bad (violet)
401–500: extremely dangerous (maroon)
With the help of these colors, users can immediately understand whether it is safe to go out or it would be better to stay indoors.
How to see AQI on Google Maps
Google has made this feature simple and useful for everyone. In a few easy steps you can know the air quality of your area,
- Install the latest version of Google Maps on your Android or iOS device.
- Open the app and enter the name of your city or location in the search bar.
- Tap the layers icon (stacked squares) on the right.
- Select Air Quality from the options present in it.
- Tap on any colored place shown on the map and see the AQI score there.
This real-time AQI feature will help people take better care of their health especially during winter and heavy pollution days.
