Famous Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films like ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Hiramandi’ were discussed from the box office collection to the dialogues of the characters. Bhansali, who made ‘Devdas’, had spent crores of rupees like water on the sets. According to media reports, Rs 15 crore was spent on building Chandramukhi’s room and Paro’s palace. Not only this, Bhansali had designed 600 sarees just for Aishwarya Rai for the films. It is also worth noting that in Bhansali’s films, the female lead has always been shown as strong, be it Chandramukhi, Paro, Leela or Faridan of ‘Hiramandi’. There is a big reason behind this also.

The producer-director always saw his mother living a life full of struggle. To support her two children, Leela Bhansali used to sew clothes, put foils on sarees and even dance on a small stage when needed, but she always had a smile on her face. This gave Muskaan Bhansali courage and she decided that in each of her films the actress would dance on a big and grand stage and her films and characters for women would always reflect the same courage and strength that she had seen in her mother.

Referring to the film ‘Devdas’ in an interview, Bhansali had said that in the film he had imagined Aishwarya and Madhuri as Mother Durga and for me there is no greater power than women. Perhaps this is the reason why in almost all of Bhansali’s films, men have been shown as emotionally broken, but women have been shown as strong and powerful. Be it Padmavati or Ramleela, the female character has dominated in both the films.
