New Delhi (CBSE Board 10th Exam Rule 2026) The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a clarification regarding the new two-board examination system to be implemented from 2026. The board has made it clear that it will be compulsory for every class 10th student to appear in the first board exam. Many students and parents are seeking permission to skip the first exam and appear for the second directly. The board rejected all such demands, saying there would be no relaxation in the new policy.

The CBSE Board Class X and Class XII exams have started today from February 17. About 46 lakh students from home and abroad are joining it. CBSE has issued an advisory to maintain integrity of examinations. The board has advised students and parents to avoid fake news and rumors about the paper leak that are spreading on social media. The board says that students should only rely on their own hard work and not be fooled by any misleading information.

Why is it necessary to take the first exam?

According to CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bharadwaj, under the new system for CBSE Board 10th Examination 2026, students will be required to appear in the first board examination. If a student fails to appear in three or more subjects during the first examination, he will not be allowed to appear in the second board examination. Such students will be put in “(Essential Repeat)” category, meaning they will have to retake the main exam next year.

CBSE Improvement and Compartment Exam Rules…

The CBSE board has made it clear that students who clear the first exam will be given an opportunity to improve their marks in the second exam in any of the three subjects: Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Languages. Students securing ‘compartment’ marks in the first examination will be allowed to appear in the second examination under the compartment category. This provision provides an additional opportunity to students to improve their performance.

An appeal to beware of rumours

With board exams about to begin, CBSE has advised to beware of fake news. The board has said that some anti-social elements are trying to mislead students by making false claims of CBSE paper leaks. CBSE has clarified that multi-layer security technology has been used to protect the question papers. Students, parents and teachers should only rely on the information provided on the official website, www.cbse.gov.in.

Ban on additional topics…

CBSE has also made it clear that no additional or standalone subjects will be allowed after passing class X. Any application seeking exemption from these rules will not be considered. The aim of the board is to maintain consistency and discipline in the examination system. This year, the Class X exams will end on March 10, 2026, while the Class XII exams will continue till April 9, 2026.

Keeping in mind the future of a total of 46 lakh students, the CBSE board has directed strict vigilance at the examination centres.
