PM Modi Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on a historic visit on December 16. It was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 15 years. The visit was considered an important moment for India-Africa relations, as Ethiopia is considered a center of diplomacy. He has now left for Oman after concluding his visit.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister of Ethiopia Dr. High-level talks between Abi Ahmad Ali formally elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership. Prime Minister Modi received a warm and personal welcome and farewell in Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abi Ahmed Ali personally received them at the airport and proceeded to their hotel. When they returned, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia once again took the driver’s seat and led them to the plane.

An important visit for India-Ethiopia relations, cooperation between the two countries will not be limited to development projects but will also deepen in key areas such as security, technology, trade and economic development. The timing of this partnership is considered crucial. Ethiopia is not only the headquarters of the African Union, but is now also a member of the BRICS group. Through this visit, India has strengthened itself as a reliable partner of the Global South and a first responder in times of crisis. India’s policy here has not been merely that of an aid country, but a partnership based on equality and shared values. Strong ties with Ethiopia also give India a strategic advantage in the Horn of Africa region, which is important for the Red Sea and maritime trade.
