Akash came in to bat at number eight. He started his innings with a dot and two singles. But he hit six sixes in the next eight balls. Akash completed his half century in just 11 balls. Akash holds the record for scoring the fastest half-century in first-class cricket. Earlier, Leicestershire’s Wayne Knight scored a 12-ball 50 in 2012, while Clive Inman completed his half-century in just 13 balls in 1965.
Akash broke the record for the fastest half-century in terms of balls faced, but he is second in the list of fastest half-centuries in terms of time. He took nine minutes to reach this milestone, while Inman took only eight minutes. The 25-year-old has played 30 first-class matches since his debut in 2019, scoring 503 runs at an average of 14.37.
