New Delhi: Famous popular actor Uttam Mohanta, who contributed to the films of different languages of Indian cinema, died at the age of 66. Mohanty, who comes from Odisha state, has acted in more than 130 Odia, Bengali and Hindi films but now he is no longer in this world. According to media reports, Uttam Mohanty, who was away from cinema due to liver failure, died on the previous day (Friday) during treatment at a private hospital in Delhi. He is survived by his wife Aparajita and a son. The film industry has mourned the death of Uttam Mohanty. Former Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan has expressed his condolences on the death of Uttam Mohanty. He said that his death is an irreparable loss to the Odia film industry and has prayed for the peace of his soul.
He wrote on his official X, ‘Uttam Mohanty Odia was like a guiding star in the film industry. For more than two decades, he remained a unique hero in Odia cinema. He was a symbol of Odia art world. Through his acting in Odia, Bengali and even Hindi films, he brought the Odia film industry to new heights. His death is an irreparable damage to the Odia artistic community. At the same time, the Chief Minister has also announced that Uttam Mohanty will be cremated with full state honors. He personally visited the body of Uttam Mohanty and paid his tribute.
At the same time, BJP’s national vice president and centralpara MP Baijayant Panda has mourned the death of veteran actor. He wrote on his X, ‘End of an era in Odia film industry! Hearing about the demise of well-known and popular actor Uttam Mohanty in every household of Odisha, I am deeply sad and heartbroken. His invaluable contribution to the Odia film industry will always be remembered. While praying for the peace of the departed soul, I express my deep condolences to the mournful family.
Uttam Mohanty acted in more than 130 films during his career, which lasted for more than four decades. He started his acting career in 1977 with Sadhu Meher’s pride and worked in hit films like Danda Balunga Aur Ki Jeet Ki Hare. The actor also acted in about 30 Bengali films and also worked in Hindi film Naya Poison. Let us tell you that he was awarded the prestigious Jaydev Award in 1999. In 2012, she received the Odisha Living Legend Award and won the Odisha State Film Award several times for her contribution to Odia cinema.
