MahaKumbh Mela 2025: The MahaKumbh Mela started in traditional style on the holy occasion of the full moon of Poh from today in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. At the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, pilgrims from the country and abroad started this Mahasangam by placing sticks. So far more than 40 lakh people have taken holy bath on the first day of the fair. As soon as the Mahakumbh began in Prayagraj, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared it a very special day for those who keep Indian values and culture together. He said that this grand religious event is a symbol of India’s spiritual heritage.

In a post on X, Mr. Modi said that along with the holy bath of the full moon of Poh, the Mahakumbh has started on the holy land of Prayagraj from today. He said, “I heartily congratulate all the devotees on this great occasion related to our faith and culture. I wish that this grand festival of India’s spiritual tradition infuses new energy and enthusiasm in all of your lives.” UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on the occasion, “Mahakumbh will be held from January 13 to February 26 It will give recognition to the ancient culture and religious traditions of India at the global level.
Let us tell you that in the last two days, 85 lakh devotees have taken bath in the Kumbh Mela. On Sunday, a day before the full moon of Poh, about 50 lakh devotees had bathed at the Sangam.
On Saturday, 33 lakh pilgrims took a dip at the confluence. Around 45 crore devotees are expected to attend the Mahakumbh Mela this year, which will make it the largest event in history.
The first royal bath of the Mahakumbha will take place on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti (Maghi) on January 14.
