Four Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar area. A senior police officer said that a head constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) also lost his life in this encounter.
The officer said that last evening a joint team of DRG and Special Task Force (STF) went to the forest of South Abujhmar on the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts as part of an anti-Naxal campaign and the encounter started. He said that after the firing stopped late last night, the dead bodies of four Naxalites and several other weapons including an AK-47 rifle and a self-loaded rifle (SLR) were recovered from the scene. The official said that DRG head constable Sannu Karam was also martyred in the encounter. He said that the search operation in the area is still going on.
State Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed grief over the death of the policeman. He said that the war will continue till the elimination of Naxalites. He said on X, ‘There is news that four Naxalites have been killed so far in the encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the southern Abujhmar area on the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.’ The Chief Minister said, ‘DRG head constable Sannu Karam was martyred in the encounter. Their sacrifice will not go in vain. The security forces are fighting very strongly against Naxalism and the fight will continue till the problem is over.’ -News-Patiala
