Dense fog in Chandigarh; Cold fury continues in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh witnessed a thick blanket of fog on Friday morning and the temperature dropped to a minimum of 6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, passengers faced problems during the journey. The problem may ease soon, with the IMD predicting a slight rise in temperatures in the coming days due to the influence of the latest Western Disturbance.

On the other hand, Punjab and Haryana are in the grip of severe cold, the maximum temperature in both the states is well below the normal range and the visibility was reduced due to fog on Friday morning.

In Punjab, the cold wave gripped Mohali and Amritsar, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 10.7 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana also recorded 12 degrees Celsius during the day, while Patiala recorded 14 degrees Celsius. In the neighboring state of Haryana, it is freezing cold in most places during the day.

Delhi’s air quality deteriorated

Delhi’s air quality worsened as the day progressed. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, it recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 318 in the very poor category.

Flights that lack the necessary equipment for low-visibility landings, especially those that do not comply with CAT III standards, are expected to be delayed or canceled.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), “cold day” conditions are declared when the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees Celsius or below normal.
