Votes will be held for 139 wards of Jalandhar district

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that 731 polling booths have been constructed for the general/sub-district elections-2024 of the municipal corporation, municipal councils and municipal panchayats to be held on 21 December 2024, where votes will be held for 139 wards of the district. He was taking stock of the preparations regarding the elections during the meeting held in the district administrative complex today. Dr. Agarwal said that 677 polling booths have been constructed for 85 wards of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, while 13 each of Municipal Council Bhogpur and Guraya, Nagar Panchayat Bilga and Shahkot and Ward No. 13 of Municipal Council Phillaur and Ward No. 5 of Nagar Panchayat Mehtpur. 54 polling booths have been set up for the election.

He instructed the officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made at the polling booths so that the voters do not face any kind of trouble. He said that there is CCTV at the booths. Cameras, lights, furniture, drinking water, toilets and other necessary arrangements should be made. The District Election Officer said that adequate security forces have been deployed to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. He also directed the police officials to maintain full vigilance at every polling location including sensitive and ultra-sensitive polling stations. The Deputy Commissioner, while reviewing the food and drink, accommodation, transportation etc. of the election staff, directed the officials to ensure that the reports/information sent regarding the voting and counting on the election day are sent on time in the specified format. On this occasion, Joint Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (c) Major Dr. Amit Mahajan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Jasbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Budhi Raj Singh, SDMs. Besides Vivek Modi, Balbir Raj Singh, Lal Biswas, Shubhi Angra, Randeep Singh Heer and Amanpal Singh, Returning Officer, civil and district police officers were present.
