A drug victim admitted to a de-addiction center (Baba Beriya Wala) at Sarawan Bodla village of this constituency died after an alleged beating, in connection with which the police have registered a case against the owner of the centre. The deceased has been identified as Amarjit Singh resident of Patel Nagar Malot. Kabarwala police have registered a case of involuntary manslaughter under section 105 of BNS against the owner of the drug addiction center in the case of the alleged beating to death of a drug victim. In a complaint to the police, the family of the deceased said that for not depositing the monthly fee, Amarjit Singh was brutally beaten by the owner of the de-addiction center and was thrown into a water drum. He was admitted to this center for the last five months. According to the statements of Manjit Kaur, the mother of the deceased, when they brought Amarjit from the center, she told that due to being beaten and thrown into a water drum, his spinal cord was damaged. After this, Amarjit was admitted to the hospital in Malot. Seeing his condition deteriorating, he was brought to AIIMS Bathinda, where he succumbed.
