A woman tourist died on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway while the police rescued six people stuck in snow on the Mughal Road. A large boulder fell from a hill on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Mehr area of Ramban district and hit a minibus, injuring a woman tourist and dying, officials said.
On the other hand, police rescued six persons stuck in snow on Mughal Road in Poonch district. According to information, two vehicles were going from Shopian to Surankot on Friday night when both the vehicles got stuck in the snow at Chatapani on Mughal Road. Officials said that a police team reached the spot and managed to evacuate the trapped people to safe places.
Meanwhile, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway Mughal Road and Srinagar-Leh Highway have been closed for traffic. Gurez in Bandipora, Tangdhar in Kupwara district and Sinthan Road leading to Kishtwar from Anantnag district in the valley have also been closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall. Traffic department officials have advised the passengers not to travel on these roads.
Heavy snowfall has affected life in the valley and the department is trying to restore power supply and transport to Srinagar city and other places in the valley. The Meteorological Department has now predicted rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. IANS
