Dr. People have started gathering outside Manmohan Singh’s residence in Delhi to pay their respects. Jasmeet, a resident of East Delhi, said she came with her husband Hatendra Pal to pay tribute to Manmohan Singh, whom she credits for making India famous globally.
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the phone and Dr. Requested to cremate Manmohan Singh at a place where his memorial can be built.
Immediately after the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah called on Congress president Kharge and late Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the government will allocate space for the monument. Manmohan Singh’s last rites are to be performed today at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi.
After his second term, Dr. Singh retired from public life having led India through a period of unprecedented growth and international recognition. He was replaced by Narendra Modi in 2014 after the Congress-led UPA lost the general elections. –ANI
