Heavy snowfall of the season in Jammu and Kashmir

Life has been badly affected due to rains in North India for the last two days. Cold has taken hold in northern states including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

Due to the season’s heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, rail and road traffic has been affected, due to which people have to face problems. Electricity and water services have also been affected here, while fresh snowfall and heavy rains in Uttarakhand have recorded a drop in temperature. Similarly, due to Western Disturbance, rain has lashed Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a record 41.2 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi. The city recorded the highest rainfall in a single day on December 3, 1923 at 75.7 mm, the IMD said.

Air, rail and road transport affected

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah directed the Deputy Commissioners to personally lead the snow removal operation. Record snowfall in Kashmir since Friday. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to snowfall, officials said. He said that due to heavy snowfall on the Navyug tunnel, the snow removal work has been hampered.

Railway officials said that train services have been suspended due to heavy snowfall on the tracks in Banihal-Baramulla.

Airport officials said that air services have also been suspended in Srinagar due to bad weather.

Some people trapped in the snow tried to relieve their troubles by playing cricket inside the 8.5 km Navyug tunnel in Kashmir. The tunnel connects Banihal town in Jammu’s Ramban district with Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Many people were forced to spend the night in their vehicles in the cold. Meanwhile, the Badrinath National Highway has been closed due to snowfall and heavy rain in Uttarakhand.

Mercury fell in Punjab and Haryana

Punjab’s Chandigarh, Patiala, Pathankot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Ambala, Karnal, Sirsa and Yamunanagar received record rainfall during the day due to which the temperature dropped. -News-Patiala
