Pre-Budget Meeting: Punjab’s demand for special package and relaxation in loan conditions

State Finance Ministers have demanded an increase in the funds available under the 50-year interest-free loan scheme during the pre-budget meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. States like Punjab and Kerala, which are feeling financial pressure, have insisted on special packages and relaxation of conditions for loans. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that he has demanded an incentive package for border states. During the meeting, the states suggested to the finance minister that the upper limit of the loan limit for financial activities should be increased and additional funds should be provided for Jal Jeevan Mission. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra sought funds for the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana and also demanded that a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) be started in the state with 50-50 percent participation of the central and state governments. -News-Patiala
