New Delhi, December 25
A man tried to set himself on fire today near the new Parliament building in the national capital. An official of the Delhi Fire Brigade Department gave this information. The victim, identified as Jitendra, hails from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. His age is about 30 years.
The official said that the information was received at 3.35 pm about the incident which took place near the Rail Bhawan in front of the Parliament House, after which a fire department vehicle was sent to the spot. He said that the security personnel posted at the Parliament took that person to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
“He tried to set himself on fire at the roundabout near Rail Bhawan,” an official statement said. The local police and railway police along with some people immediately put out the fire and the person was rushed to the hospital.
According to preliminary investigation, Jeetendra took this step after a dispute with some people at his house in Baghpat. Police said that Jitendra had reached Delhi by train this morning. His half-burnt bag and some other items have been recovered from the scene.
A police officer said that the family members of the person have been contacted and investigation is on. -News-Patiala
