Jalandhar, Punjab: A devastating fire broke out in a house in Jalandhar’s Avtar Nagar on Sunday night, claiming the lives of Six members of a family. The deceased have been identified as Mansha (14), Diya (10), Ruchi, Inderpal, and the owner of the house, Yashpal.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a gas leak from the refrigerator kept in the house. The explosion was so powerful that the house caught fire within minutes. At the time of the incident, one member of the family was away at the house of their neighbors, and thus escaped the tragedy.
The fire department responded promptly to the emergency call, but it was too late to save the five family members who were trapped inside the house. The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the debris after the fire was extinguished.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the local administration has announced an ex-gratia payment to the bereaved family.
